Masjid Mu'adh ibn Jabal

Masjid Mu'adh ibn Jabal is located just outside Leicester City Centre in the well‑known Goodwood area. It serves a vibrant Muslim community of more than 500 families living in and around Uppingham Road, Coleman Road, Wakerley Road, and Spencefield Lane.

Who was Mu'adh-ibn-Jabal?

Mu'adh-bin-Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) was an eminent Sahabi (companion) about whom the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) once said, “The most knowledgeable of my ummah in matters of halal and haram is Mu'adh-ibn-Jabal.”

Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) was an Ansari who became a Muslim at a young age at the hands of Musayb-bin-Umair (may Allah be pleased with him), whom the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) had sent to Yathrib (Madinah) before the Hijrah. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) reached Madinah, Mu'adh stayed in his company as much as possible. He studied the Quran and the laws of Islam until he became one of the most well-versed of all the companions in the religion of Islam. Wherever Mu'adh went, people would refer to him for legal judgements on matters over which they differed.

Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) died in Jordan during the 18th year after Hijra, at the age of 38. His son is also buried close to him
